New changes to lockdown will not affect current theatre programming

Theatre workers and audiences alike have been waiting with bated breath for Boris Johnson’s press conference this afternoon, praying that the new changes to lockdown rules would not affect what little theatre we have been able to get back on its feet. Fortunately, it should not further affect current theatre programming in England.

Permitting organised events are made Covid-secure and no parties of more than six people attend together, the regulations should not impact scheduled performances.

Theatres will, however, now be required by law to obtain customer details for test and trace purposes. There will also be “marshals” to ensure the rules are being abided by.

The main downside to today’s announcement is that imminent plans to trial bringing larger audiences back to venues have had to temporarily be put on hold.
