English National Opera launches programme to aid those recovering from Covid-19

ENO Breathe

Following a successful pilot scheme last year, English National Opera and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust have developed a programme to help those with breathlessness when recovering from Covid-19.

ENO Breathe merges singing, breathing and well-being techniques, with input from experts in both musical and medical fields.

The scheme will be rolled out to up to 1,000 patients across London and the North of England, with participants taking part in weekly online group sessions and using digital resources to further their recovery, including improving their breathing and mirroring techniques used by opera singers.

During the six-week pilot at the end of 2020 with 12 participants, 90% of those noticed a significant improvement in their breathlessness, with 91% saying their anxiety had lessened.
