2021 Casting Directors’ Guild Awards results see wins across the board for Old Vic team
Last night saw the 3rd Annual CDG Casting Awards, hosted by actor Camille Cottin in an online ceremony. The awards were launched in partnership with Spotlight to celebrate the casting profession and recognise excellence in casting across film, television, and stage productions.
Winning in two categories were Casting Director Jessica Ronane and Casting Associate Abby Galvin. Both the Old Vic’s touring production of A Monster Calls (pictured) and the Gielgud Theatre’s production of Girl from the North Country won them Best Casting in a Regional Theatre Production and Best Casting in Musical Theatre, respectively.
Also recognised was Stuart Burt, who won the Best Casting in Theatre award, for his work on Cyrano de Bergerac at the Playhouse Theatre.
In television, winners included Leanne Flinn for Best Casting in a Commercial for Sport England’s This Girl Can – Me Again, and Louise Kiely and Karen Scully for Best Casting in a TV Drama for the hugely popular Normal People. The casting of Sex Education’s second series also won Lauren Evans Best Casting in a TV Comedy Series. In film, Isabella Odoffin won Best Casting in an Independent Film for Blue Story, whilst Sarah Crowe and Xanthe Spencer-Davidson won Best Casting in a Film for The Personal History of David Copperfield.
