World premiere of 17 Again - The Musical to be staged in Tokyo

17 Again - The Musical

There have been rumblings for a while but its finally been confirmed that 2009 film 17 Again will receive its stage musical world premiere in Japan next year.

Based on the film starring Zac Efron and Matthew Perry, the musical will open in Tokyo in May 2021, translated and directed by Kenichi Tani.

The plot tells of a discontented 35-year old man who mysteriously wakes up as his 17-year old former self and is given the opportunity to rewrite the future he feels he was meant to have.

Previously the show has had several industry readings in America, including involvement by Darren Criss (Glee, The Assassination of Gianni Versace) and direction/choreography by Adam Shankman (Hairspray) to name only a couple.

17 Again – The Musical has music & lyrics by Alan Zachary & Michael Weiner (First Date) and a book by Marco Pennette (TV’s Ugly Betty, Mom).

With this creative team, this is exciting! Let’s hope 17 Again – The Musical comes to the UK soon!
