Winners announced at 23rd annual WHATSONSTAGE AWARDS

The winners of the 23rd annual Whatsonstage Awards have been revealed in a star-studded ceremony at the Prince of Wales Theatre in the heart of the West End this evening (12 February).

Performer awards and their recipients include:

Best Performer in a Play - Jodie Comer for Prima Facie; Best Performer in a Musical - Courtney Bowman for Legally Blonde; Best Supporting Performer in a Play - Gwyneth Keyworth for To Kill a Mockingbird; Best Supporting Performer in a Musical - Lauren Drew for Legally Blonde; Best Takeover Performance - Lucie Jones for Wicked; and Best Professional Debut Performance - Joe Locke for The Trials.

Production awards and their recipients include:

Best West End Show - Six the Musical; Best New Play - Prima Facie; Best New Musical - Bonnie & Clyde the Musical; Best Play Revival - Cock; Best Musical Revival - Oklahoma!; Best Direction - Phelim McDermott for My Neighbour Totoro; Best Casting Direction - Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher for Spring Awakening at Almeida Theatre; Best Choreography - Arlene Phillips for Grease; Best Set Design - Tom Pye and Basil Twist for My Neighbour Totoro; Best Lighting Design - Jessica Hung Han Yun for My Neighbour Totoro; Best Sound Design - Tony Gayle for My Neighbour Totoro; Best Costume Design - Gabriella Slade for The Cher Show; Best Musical Direction or Supervision - Bruce O’Neil and Matt Smith for My Neighbour Totoro; Best Video Design - Joshua Thorson for Oklahoma!; Best Graphic Design - Studio Doug for Prima Facie; Best Concert Event - Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends; Best Off-West End Production - But I’m a Cheerleader at the Turbine Theatre; and Best Regional Production - Billy Elliot the Musical at Curve Leicester.

The WhatsOnStage Award for Services to Theatre was awarded to Nica Burns OBE.
