Verbatim play of VARDY V ROONEY to be staged in West End
Dubbed ‘The Wagatha Christie Trial’, the court case between Rebekah Vardy and Colleen Rooney gripped the nation, and for one night only, audiences will be able to witness it live on stage in the West End.
Adapted from seven days worth of high court transcripts by award winning playwright Liv Hennessy and directed by Lisa Spirling, Vardy v Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial will bring the dramatic case to life in a story that featured sting operations and sensational headlines. Audiences will see the action first hands in the words of Vardy and Coleen with lurid one-liners and revelations blurring the boundaries of tabloid and court case, social media and soap opera.
This unique moment of British media history captured the imagination of the public, and whilst many discussed the case, only a handful actually witnessed it unfold, but now it will be out there live on stage.
Producer Eleanor Lloyd said: “The way the trail gripped the nation – myself included – demonstrated to me straight away how well this story would translate to the stage; the twists and turns of the case were so intriguing, you couldn’t write it.”
Director Lisa Spirling added: “This trail asks key questions about the complex boundaries between privacy and celebrity in modern Britian and what it is to be a so-called WAG. I’m thilled to be collaborating with Eleanor, Eilene and Liv to bring this extraordinary court room script to life.”
