Review: SEND IN THE CLOWNS, Old Joint Stock Theatre Birmingham

Returning to The Old Joint Stock, Send In The Clowns is described as a “Super-campy-f*galicious-not-quite-diznee-drag-show!” And the description certainly does not disappoint!

Featuring amongst others ‘The Lion Queen’, ‘Beauty is a Beast’, ‘Hunkules’ and a rodent called ‘Mick. E’, this is Diznee, (not Disney, for obvious reasons!) at its most entertaining.

Hosted by Fatt Butcher (who entertains in a sassy rendition of Cruella De Vil), alongside Dahlia Rivers, Blu Romantic and WEBF’s own Alanna Boden (whose incredible vocals would not be out of place in the West End), there are laughs a plenty.

Act Two saw a reduced interpretation of ‘The Surprisingly Large Mermaid’ and quite honestly, we will never look at the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale in quite the same way ever again! Including wig changes, a giant octopus and plenty of bubbles, this is one under the sea adventure you will never forget.

Expect live vocals, lip-syncing, wind machines, audience participation, sing-alongs and outrageous costumes – honestly, you haven’t lived until you’ve seen a flying carpet sing!

For a fantastically entertaining night full of music and hilarity, this show is not to be missed!

Camp, kitsch and crazy!
