Review: KNOT - A TRILOGY, Darkfield Radio (Online)

Knot 3 stars

Following the instructions given, I downloaded the app, switched my phone to ‘Do Not Disturb’ and plugged in my headphones.

I then sat, eagerly anticipating the first of Darkfield Radio’s Knot Trilogy, an immersive 360-degree audio experience, to begin.

Knot - A Trilogy takes place in three locations – sat on a park bench, in the front passenger seat of a car and in your home.  However, if you are unable to get to these specific locations, you are encouraged to recreate the set up indoors.

Each of the three episodes is interwoven around a traumatic event, which the characters (and you as the onlooker) are trying to change, but the outcome appears to be inevitable.

The experience questions: What is real?  What is imagined? Is something only real if we experience it ourselves?  Do we need to untie the knot that has no ends in order to change what has already passed?

The performance is well thought out and you are given the complete experience of being surrounded by the sounds of the location (birds singing in the park, car doors opening and closing, chairs being moved around, etc.)

In the third location, a lot of voices can be heard at once, which felt like there was too much going on, but also made you feel the same confusion and disorientation as the characters. So although this did work in part, it was also a bit overwhelming and I felt that I may have missed something within the context of the story.

If you are looking for something a bit different, then this interactive production could be it!
