Having only heard good things about Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, when we originally found out that the hit musical was to be made into a film for Amazon Prime, it’s safe to say it was definitely up there on our watch list.

This musical is full to the brim with glitz, glamour and fabulous queens in all variations. Based on the real life story of Jamie Campbell, Max Harwood brings to forefront a flawless performance with silky vocals to match.

The choreography is crisp and fun packed from the moment the camera starts rolling until the end credits, particularly during the title number, ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’.

Lauren Patel is captivating and enthralling as Jamie’s best friend Pritti, especially during ‘It Means Beautiful’. She brings out different sides to friendship that everyone can relate to at some point.

Harwood, together with Sarah Lancashire, complement each other as they demonstrate the highs and lows of a mother/son relationship and display an abundance of pure, raw emotion; ‘He’s My Boy’ being a perfect example of this.

Of course, this musical would not have as half the sparkle and glamour if it weren’t for the Queens including Richard E. Grant who invites us into his world as Hugo/Loco Chanelle during ‘This Was Me’, and indeed the audience is willing and waiting to join.

Although I personally haven’t seen the musical on stage yet, this musical does work very well as a film adaptation and brings across the message of “be who you want to be” perfectly.

The way that the show is written and is able to tackle a variety of different issues in a seamless manner is inspiring.
