Review: DISCO DIVA DRAG BRUNCH, Luna Springs Digbeth

A slightly different review for West End Best Friend but we like to give you variety and Luna Springs’ Disco Diva Drag Brunch fits the brief perfectly!

Bottomless brunches have become a staple of weekend entertainment in recent years, a chance to let our hair down for a couple of hours with delicious food, unlimited drinks and (if you’re lucky) hosts like drag queens Flick and Blu Romantic, and songstress Alanna Boden.

Despite Saturday’s miserable weather, one of Digbeth’s hottest venue’s Luna Springs certainly brought the sunshine. Although there is a slightly chaotic nature to the proceedings and it has very much a “fly by the seat of your pants” vibe, this only adds to its charm and endearment.

With a soundtrack of classic 70’s bangers, performed as live vocals and pre-recorded tracks, alongside smutty compering and wild games, it would be impossible not to enjoy yourself with this company. From musical bingo, leading to dance-offs and conga lines snaking around Digbeth Arena, to a toilet roll ‘fashion’ contest and catwalk, let’s just say the alcohol definitely fuels the enjoyment - if you go for that option.

Flick, Blu Romantic and Boden base themselves on a stage platform with the attendees sat at long tables in a horseshoe around them. They stand on tables (and encourage you to do the same!) to perform and mingle with audience at times, poised and ready to give you a prosecco facial… Please note, you may get wet!

The hosts have an ease about them and are all equally charismatic. We’d have loved to have heard more of Boden’s vocals, but she more than shows us what she can do during ‘I Want You Back’.

Whilst the serving staff were a little underprepared and unorganised at times, they manage the crowd well. The food was nice enough (I’d recommend the Moroccan spiced lamb burger) and they were generous with the drinks so what more can you ask for?!

Camp, interactive and fantastic fun!

**** Four stars
