Remembering ROBBIE COLTRANE

Actor Robbie Coltrane has sadly passed away aged 72, it has been announced.

Most famous for playing the beloved Hagrid in the Harry Potter series and Dr Eddie ‘Fitz’ Fitzgerald in Cracker, the Scottish actor began his career on the stage starring in the first theatre production of John Byrne’s The Slab Boys at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh in 1978, he then went on to star in Threads at Hampstead Theatre before taking to a life on the screen.

Coltrane lit up both the cinema and TV screen with his acting and comedic repertoire, starring in Goldeneye and The World is not Enough, The Young Ones and Blackadder. He began life on the screen with sketch series Alfresco with Emma Thompson, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry.

Coltrane won three BAFTAS, an outstanding contribution award from BAFTA Scotland and was awarded an OBE in the 2006 New Years Honours.

He is survived by his two children Spencer and Alice, whom he had with ex-wife Rhona Gemmell.
