Idina Menzel documentary film to be streamed on Disney Plus
Star of stage and screen Idina Menzel will be the subject of a new Disney+ documentary called Idina Menzel: Which Way to the Stage?, which streams on the platform from 9 December.
Directed by Anne McCabe, the feature follows the iconic performer’s career thus far, with the big finale taking place at a concert she headlined at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Featuring never-before-seen performance footage alongside raw and vulnerable interviews, the documentary follows Idina on an intimate journey as she juggles the challenges of being a working mom and wife on a grueling travel schedule while preparing to take the stage at the legendary arena. Throughout the film, she also shares her personal experience with in vitro fertilization, an emotional process that runs parallel to her runway towards Madison Square Garden.
Menzel first came to our attention as Maureen Johnson in the original Broadway cast of Jonathan Larson’s Rent, for which she received her first Tony Award nomination. She also originated the role of Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked, which earned her a Tony Award win.
She also starred in the film adaptation of Rent, Disney’s Enchanted, TV series Glee, and who can forget the fact that she lends her voice to the character of Elsa in the Frozen films.
