Remembering star of stage and screen Christopher Plummer

Stage and screen star Christopher Plummer, best known for playing Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music film, has sadly passed away aged 91.

The Canadian actor, who has had a career spanning seven decades, died peacefully at his Connecticut home with his wife Elaine Taylor by his side.

Plummer appeared in over 100 films during his career, winning an Oscar for his role in the 2010 film, Beginners. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for All The Money In The World, directed by Ridley Scott.

He won two Tony Awards for his performances in Cyrano and Barrymore, and was nominated for a further seven Tony’s with his latest being for King Lear in 2004 and for Inherit the Wind in 2007.

On this side of the pond, Plummer won London’s Evening Standard Award for Best Actor in Becket at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in the 1960’s.

His most recent appearance on our screens was in the highly successful film Knives Out, alongside Daniel Craig and Chris Evans, in 2019.
