Pleasance Theatre brings top shows from Edinburgh Fringe & exciting new productions for their Winter Season
Fresh from a summer programme at the Edinburgh Fringe and Islington, Pleasance have announced their winter programming full of Edinburgh transfers.
In the Mainhouse, Dumbledore is So Gay is a nostalgic coming of age story, where Jack is sorted into Hufflepuff by an online quiz, he hates studying French and is in love with his best friend Ollie. Audience members are encouraged to dress up with free drinks given to the best costumes each day. Dumbledore is So Gay will be on stage from 21-26 September and will make the leap online from 27 September-11 October.
From 29 September-2 October, you can catch The Concrete Jungle Book by Dominic Garfield, a new hip-hop musical which moves Rudyard Kipling’s classic story from the Indian jungle to inner-city Britain and will feature live rap, grime, and reggae music.
The Pleasance is pleased to present this year’s recipient of the Charlie Hartill Theatre Reserve Screen 9 from 11 – 13 October, following it’s sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe. The piece provides the true testimonies of the survivors of the 2021 Aurora, Colorado shootings.
Following this from 14–16 October will be Skank, a comedy drama following a lady called Kate trying to cut it as a successful writer. Comedy, singing and drag will return on 23 October with London’s best LGBTQ+ performers taking to the stage with CWM RAG’s The Second Spaffin.
With Christmas on its way, Dog Show will be The Pleasance’s Christmas Extravaganza from 24 November-19 December. Created by Ginger Johnson and David Cumming, they will join the mutt-ley crew from Crappersea Dogs Home and you can follow them as they try to put their best paw forward for the Annual Rehoming Show.
Pleasance’s downstairs will feature Fritz & Matlock from 5 – 17 October which will tackle mens mental health with a comic undertone. Following this will be The London Horror Festival bringing 20 shows of live horror performances.
Humane will be staged from 3 – 21 November, following a group of people in a small port in Essex who woke up to lorries carrying live animals for over 30 hours with no food or water. Flinch by Emma Hemingford is the last play to be announced. The dark comedy will run from 23 – 25 November and will follow a couple’s struggle for intimacy and their attempt to repair relationships.
Director of the Pleasance Theatres Trust Anthony Alderson said: “This eclectic season shows off the variety that we at the Pleasance celebrate and encourage. With the Charlie Hartill Theatre Reserve recipient transferring to London from an acclaimed and successful Edinburgh run and an exciting new Christmas show from the legend Ginger Johnson, our Islington spaces are offering something for everyone across the next few months.”
