NY POPSUP flexible venues to open including select Broadway theatres

It has been confirmed that live indoor performance across New York State will begin on 2 April, with the reopening of a number of “Flex Venues” to kickstart the city’s live entertainment industry.

New pop-up festival NY PopsUp, which sees a series of live performances over 100 days throughout New York City and State, acts as a pilot programme to re-open Flex Venues. These performance spaces can be adapted to fit social distancing guidelines and includes select Broadway theatres.

This move marks a significant step towards reopening the industry and with the support of the New York State Department of Health, specific safety plans have been created for each participating venue. The pilot will increase audience size over time as regulations allow, working up to a full Broadway re-opening.

Producers of NY PopsUp, Scott Rudin and Jane Rosenthal, said: “In just two weeks NY PopsUp has become the engine that drives the safe re-opening of the arts throughout our State. It's a wonderful bonus to the opportunity to present 300 shows in 100 days, and to the enormous satisfaction in bringing artists back to work here. It’s incredibly exciting to see what the arts community and the state can do, together, when we all row in the same direction.”
