We are incredibly saddened to hear that the Nuffield Southampton Theatres are being closed permanently, following its entry into administration earlier this year.

Although there was a lot of interest expressed by potential buyers, they were unfortunately unable to meet all of the stakeholder’s terms and conditions. This regrettably means that 86 members of staff will now be made redundant.

Administrator Greg Palfrey said: “This is a sad day for the theatre industry in the UK, bringing the final curtain down on nearly 60 years of history of NST as a venerable performing arts institution in Southampton.”

Previously awarded ‘Regional Theatre of the Year’ by The Stage, the Nuffield Southampton Theatres Trust consists of a 450 capacity main house theatre, a smaller 133-seat studio space, screening facilities, rehearsals, a bar and restaurant.

Our thoughts at WEBF are with everyone affected by the closure.
