New Musical The Rhythmics Announced

The Rhythmics

Metta Theatre and Aria Entertainment have joined together to create a brand new musical, The Rhythmics. Written by Poppy Burton-Morgan, with music by Ben Glasstone, it has recently managed to complete a full cast-recording, despite the current lockdown.

Described as ‘Calendar Girls meets Full Monty’, this life-affirming show tells the story of single-dad Grey. After successfully auditioning for ‘Nick & the Rhythmics’, he realises the group isn’t a rock band but rather an all-male Rhythmic Gymnastics troupe. The choreography by Mark Smith will incorporate British Sign Language into the ribbon-twirling sequences too..

Burton-Morgan said: "The future may remain uncertain but I know that when theatres do reopen, there's going to be such a hunger for the kind of emotionally rich and complex new musical theatre that I write... We can't wait to share the songs with you all very soon, and hopefully dates for the world premiere too".

The first track from the musical ‘Waiting to Begin’ has now been uploaded to YouTube, ahead of the release of the full-album on Spotify and iTunes. It will be available to purchase in August. The music video features footage from the 2019 workshop, as well as cast members Sam Thomas and Kinny Gardner singing from home.

We can’t wait to hear the rest!
