The National Theatre have announced that the Death of England trilogy, written by Clint Dyer and Roy Williams – which includes Death of EnglandDeath of England: Delroy and Death of England: Face to Face – will be available to stream for the first time on National Theatre at Home.

Death of England: Face to Face is available on National Theatre at Home from today, with the full trilogy available to watch from 12 May.

Written by Deputy Artistic Director of the National Theatre Clint Dyer, and Roy Williams, and directed by Dyer, this marks the first time that the trilogy will be available to watch together, with each part filmed in a different theatre at the NT.

Death of England opened in the Dorfman theatre in 2020, with Rafe Spall as Michael; Death of England: Delroy with Michael Balogun re-opened the National Theatre after the first covid closure in 2020 and was filmed in the round in the Olivier theatre. Death of England: Face to Face sees Michael (Neil Maskell) and Delroy (Giles Terera) come together for the standalone feature film, filmed in the NT’s Lyttelton theatre while the theatre was closed for live performances during lockdown. Death of England: Face to Face has been nominated in the Single Drama category of this year’s BAFTA TV awards.

Clint Dyer said: “We’re honoured to have been nominated for a BAFTA in the Single Drama category for Death of England: Face to Face. Filmed and conceived entirely during the pandemic, we saw this standalone film as an opportunity to put the two characters (Michael and Delroy) from the first Death of England and Death of England: Delroy productions quite literally face to face. It was a thrilling experience to be creating a film that pushed the boundaries of filmmaking, without compromising on the intimate and direct experience delivered on stage. We made a film, my debut, that could only have been made at the NT, nowhere else would have given us the kind of freedom we needed to be this creative. It’s exciting to see this film being celebrated at this year’s BAFTA awards and we’re delighted to be able to share the full trilogy with audiences around the world on NT at Home soon.”

National Theatre at Home is available now here. The Death of England trilogy will be available to rent from £5.99 – £7.99, a monthly subscription for £9.99 or a yearly subscription for £99.99.
