Stiles & Drewe launch annual Musical Theatre Young Singer Award

Award-winning British composers George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, along with The British Theatre Academy, are launching their annual Musical Theatre Young Singer Award this week.

The writing duo are asking young people between the ages of 6-18 from across to UK to send in a video of themselves performing a song from one of their shows, which includes Disney’s Mary Poppins, Betty Blue Eyes, Soho Cinders and Honk! to name but a few.

There will be two winners: one in the 6-12 years and another in the 13-18 years category. The successful recipients will not only will they earn the title of UK’s Musical Theatre Young Singer of the Year but they will also receive £200 in theatre gift vouchers.

George Stiles and Anthony Drewe said: “This virtual competition will hopefully inspire young people to get their voice heard. Let’s get young artists from around the UK singing again!”

Along with Stiles and Drewe, there will be other judges including theatre producer Danielle Tarento, Maiyah Quansah Breed (Six), director Steven Dexter, casting director Harry Blumenau and Willy Mukendi who runs MTAS (The Musical Theatre Appreciation Society).

The deadline for entries is Friday 31 July.
