Jim Henson's THE DARK CRYSTAL to be adapted for stage by The Royal Ballet
The Royal Opera House has today shared plans for its 2021/22 season to include a ballet inspired by Jim Henson's iconic The Dark Crystal, choreographed and directed by Wayne McGregor.
Based on the 1982 film, Odyssey is a magical coming-of-age story for family audiences, which brings together a team of world-class collaborators including artists Brian and Wendy Froud, composer Joel Cadbury, digital designers kontrastmoment, lighting designer Lucy Carter, dramaturg Uzma Hameed, costume designer Philip Delamore and face-and body-artist Alex Box, with puppets and props from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
The season will feature five world premieres from The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera, including McGregor's world premiere of The Dante Project in October and Christopher Wheeldon's new full-length ballet Like Water for Chocolate.
