Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes to Hollywood to sing new original track for Everybody’s Talking About Jamie film
Fans of the hit musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie are in for an extra treat when the film adaptation arrives later this year, in the form of a brand new song sung by none other than Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
The song called ‘This Was Me’ has been penned by Dan Gillespie Sells and Tom MacRae and soundtracks a sequence following Hugo’s experiences as a young gay man living in London, experiencing the protests against Margaret Thatcher’s Section 28 ruling (which made it illegal to promote same-sex relationship in schools) and living through the AIDS crisis.
In a recent interview with Empire, the film’s Director Jonathan Butterell said: “It’s essentially a big dance track, like a needle-drop…What Hugo has to teach Jamie is history. He has to teach a young queer kid what shoulders he’s standing on. Even the queer community can forget what rights they have now comes on the back of the fight of other people.”
We’re super excited to hear the new song over here at WEBF!
