Gender-switched production of Tell Me On A Sunday in the works

Don Black

Speaking to the BBC, award-winning lyricist Don Black has talked of plans to open a gender-switched production of Tell Me On A Sunday.

Unfortunately the project, like so many others, was halted due to Covid-19 but Black states that a workshop has already taken place with Rebecca Frecknall directing the song cycle. It features the same journey and same time frame as the original but has a gay man at the helm of the piece.

Although he hasn’t confirmed whether this new production would be put in front of an audience, Black said he would be “delighted” if it was able to happen.

The most recent gender-switched success was the West End revival of Company, starring Rosalie Craig and Patti Lupone.
