The full programme for the Greenwich + Docklands International Festival, which is due to take place from 27 August-11 September, has been announced with events planned across Royal Greenwich, the City of London, Canary Wharf, Thamesmead, and the Royal Docks.

Greenwich + Docklands International Festival presents free outdoor arts and this year sets out to mark our emergence from the pandemic with productions that focus on our reconnection with the natural world. The event’s artistic director, Bradley Hemmings, said: “GDIF 2021 explores what we’ve learned over the past 18 months, placing the great outdoors at the heart of an optimistic and forward-looking artistic programme, whilst celebrating difference, diversity and inclusion with productions which transform perceptions and call for change.”

The 2021 programme, along with new commissions, continue to reflect the festival’s commitment to showcasing and supporting inclusive work led by diverse artists, bringing together theatre, music, and dance suitable for a range of ages. 

Highlights of the 2021 festival include a site responsive production of Dennis Potter’s Blue Remembered Hills, Family Tree by Mojisola Adebayo, a work-in-progress production co-commissioned by ATC and the Young Vic, two days of outdoor dance with 9 companies in Canary Wharf in Dancing City, Reflection Gardens and After the Storm, two magical Thames side spectacles created by Walk the Plank, presented on 2 sites in Woolwich and the Royal Docks, and Quay Culture’s Mystery Bird, a giant birdcage with projection and soundscape.
