Further details announced for TAXILANDIA including Taxi Ride Lottery and Free Gallery

Taxilandia

Oye Group, New York Theatre Workshop & The Bushwick Starr, in association with The Tank, have announced further details for Taxilandia by NYTW Artistic Instigator & Bushwick Starr Season Artist Modesto Flako Jimenez, including the Taxilandia Gallery and a ticket lottery for the Taxilandia taxi rides.

Created and written by Oye Group’s Modesto Flako Jimenez, Taxilandia is a site-specific play-within-a-ride of a city; immersing its audience in the flavours, sounds, sights and dynamic history of a neighbourhood confronting social stigmas and the realities of gentrification.

Originally developed in Jimenez’s own neighbourhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn, Taxilandia was inspired and drawn from his nine years driving a taxicab and his documentation of conversations with passengers, residents, locals, and immigrants to the neighbourhood.

Taxilandia offers different experiences during its New York City run: an opportunity to experience the past and present of Bushwick whilst walking the neighbourhood with Taxilandia Gallery, and text message experience Textilandia that invites you to traverse these blocks haunted with a deep history of conflict, perseverance and joy (both running from 5 April-3 May); and become passengers in Flako’s taxi cab for a personal experience of Bushwick via a ticket lottery from 9 April-2 May.
