Full casting announced for world premiere of OPENING NIGHT
Full casting has been announced for the world premiere of John Cassavetes’ Opening Night, a new musical with book by Ivo van Hove and music and lyrics by Rufus Wainwright, which will play a limited run at London’s Gielgud Theatre from 6 March.
Joining the previously announced Sheridan Smith as Myrtle, Hadley Fraser as Manny, Shira Haas as Nancy, Nicola Hughes as Sarah, Amy Lennox as Dorothy and John Marquez as David will be Benjamin Walker (American Psycho, Broadway) as Maurice, Rebecca Thornhill (Gypsy, The Mill at Sonning) as Kelly, Cilla Silvia (Pretty Woman, West End) as Carla, Ian McLarnon (Follies, National Theatre) as Leo, and Jos Slovick (Beautiful, UK tour) as Gus. The cast is completed by Robert Finlayson, Daniel Forrester, Jennifer Hepburn, Issy Khogali and Chrissie Perkins.
Opening Night follows a theatre company's preparations to stage a major new play on Broadway. But drama ignites behind the scenes when their leading lady is rocked by tragedy, and her personal turmoil forces everybody to deliver the performance of their lives.
Opening Night is directed and conceived by Ivo van Hove, with set, lighting and video design by Jan Versweyveld, costumes by An D’Huys, sound by Tom Gibbons and Alex Twiselton, orchestrations by Rufus Wainwright, musical supervision and musical direction by Nigel Lilley, movement and choreography by Polly Bennett, and casting by Julia Horan CDG.
