Complete recording of Anyone Can Whistle to be released for the first time

Anyone Can Whistle

Jay Records have announced that the first ever complete recording of 1964 musical Anyone Can Whistle will be released later this year.

This recording of the Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents musical was recorded 17 years ago and whilst it’s unclear as to why it has taken so long to be released, at least we don’t have long to wait now as the album is to be released on 4 December 2020.

The album includes the entire score, complete with playoffs, interludes and exit music, all played by the National Symphony Orchestra as conducted by John Owens Edwards. The cast features a number of British musical theatre stars including Julia McKenzie as Cora Hoover Hooper, John Barrowman as J. Bowden Hapgood and Maria Friedman as Fay Apple and Dr Jane Borden. The late Arthur Laurents performs the part of the narrator.

Anyone Can Whistle tells the story of a town caught up in an economic depression and a fake miracle made up by the corrupt mayor, in an attempt to draw in the tourists.
