Bolton Octagon Theatre announces Summer season
The Bolton Octagon theatre has revealed its ‘warm up’ season from May as well as its first main house production for this summer.
The recently refurbished venue will welcome audiences back inside from 26 May with new work ‘See You at the Octagon’, written by Becky Prestwich. The show, which is based on the stories of people in and around the town, plays through to 15 June.
‘Justin Moorhouse and Friends’ will play on 11 June, including a plethora of comedians with the venue’s ‘First Bite’playwriting events running across May and June featuring texts from Hannah Wilkin, Robert Hudson, Adam Kotwal, Jaclyn Backhaus and Liz Duffy Adams.
On 5 June, Mina Anwar and the Dave Bintley Trio will perform jazz and showtunes on 5 June, with digital work being created alongside the Muslim Arts and Culture Festival with Shamia Chalabi, Shahid Iqbal Khan and Maimuna Memon. The theatre will also collaborate with new multi venue music and arts festival ‘Right to Roam’ with live music being presented on 16 and 17 July.
The first full production to play in the reimagined Octagon will a new hilarious adaptation of ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’, which sees the classic Sherlock Holmes story reimagined as a ‘funny, fast paced knockabout comedy’ playing from 1 July to 7 August, with casting to be announced.
Lotte Wakeham, artistic director of The Octagon, has said ‘It’s a joy to finally be able to share the full details of the Octagon’s reopening. Our summer Warm Up season promises plenty for audiences of all ages to look forward to with a wide-ranging programme of new writing, comedy, music, play readings and family entertainment.
