Series of mini-plays 15 Heroines to be streamed online from Jermyn Street Theatre

15 Heroines

A series of short plays, reimagining women’s stories from classical myth, will be held at London’s Jermyn Street Theatre next month.

Entitled 15 Heroines, 15 well-respected actors will perform the works at the venue, which will then be streamed online from 9-14 November.

Sophia Eleni, Rebekah Murrell, Ann Ogbomo, Jemima Rooper and Gemma Whelan will star in a set of five mini-plays called The War, written by Sabrina Mahfouz and Abi Zakarian. This will be followed by Nicholle Cherrie, Rosalind Eleazar, Martina Laird, Indra Ové, and Eleanor Tomlinson performing in The Desert by April De Angelis and Chinonyerem Odimba; and finally Nathalie Armin, Doña Croll , Patsy Ferran, Nadine Marshall and Olivia Williams will feature in The Labyrinth by Bryony Lavery and Timberlake Wertenbaker.

Jermyn Street Theatre Artistic Director, Tom Littler, said: "We are delighted to assemble this remarkable cast, supported by a wonderful creative team including directors Adjoa Andoh and Cat Robey.

"These fifteen plays are more exciting than we could have dreamed – inventive, funny, angry and moving responses to Ovid’s originals. They are proof of the enduring power of classical myths, and the constant renewal and reinvention of how we tell stories."

Each series of work will be shown on three occasions to a limited online audience.
