Young people to perform in digital charity concert THE FUTURE OF MUSICAL THEATRE
Sixteen-year-old Nathan Seatter-Messer has organised a digital concert showcasing the next generation of musical theatre performers on 1 March, which will raise money for The Barn Theatre and the Theatre Support Fund+.
The twelve performers taking part range between 15-20 years old and are either students at the Barn Academy or are young people who have performed in The Barn’s various summer projects in recent years.
Once the set list was decided upon, each performer filmed their number without backing tracks and Seatter-Messer then produced, added and mixed the track.
He said: “I wanted to show how universal musical theatre is. How the future of musical theatre is for everyone,” said Nathan. “That inclusivity and acceptance is the reason behind the inclusion of the performers’ pronouns. I want to make people aware that we are here for everyone to watch and enjoy.
“We have two different charities we have selected. The Theatre Support Fund as their work in assisting theatre workers in need. The second charity being The Barn Theatre Project. Most of the performers involved in this concert have been supported by The Barn Theatre’s academy, youth company and summer schools - so it was a no-brainer for them to be one of our chosen charities. Finally, if people would like to donate to The Future of Musical Theatre itself then there will be a link to donate directly to us in the description of the concert.”
Whilst the concert is free to stream on Youtube at 7.30pm on Monday 1 March, donations are encouraged where possible.
