Winners of The Offies 2021 awards revealed in virtual ceremony

The winners of the Offies 2021 awards were announced in an online ceremony last night, celebrating artists in fringe, alternative and independent theatre.

A range of awards were presented, including OnComm awards celebrating online shows, OffCom awards acknowledging shows with shorter runs, the OffFest award for theatre shows in festivals, and OneOff awards for innovative work and initiatives in 2020.

OnComm Awards for Recorded Shows include Graeae/Royal Exchange’s The House of Bernarda Alba (pre-lockdown'/minimum edits), Complicite’s The Encounter (pre-lockdown/significant edits), Breathe at the Bread and Roses Theatre (post-lockdown/minimum edits) and Ginger Quiff Media’s Rose at the Hope Mill Theatre (post-lockdown/significant edits).

The award for Live Streaming was awarded to Tramp’s The Poltergeist at Southwark Playhouse; 15 Heroines: The Desert/The Labyrinth/The War at the Jermyn Street Theatre picked up the Series award; Lawrence Batley, New Wolsey and The Barn Theatre’s What A Carve Up! won the Innovative Award; and The Twits by Unicorn Theatre collected the Children’s award.

Those collecting Offie awards include: Tom White for Lighting on Macbeth at Wiltons Music Hall; Patrick Connellan and Yaiza Varona for their Set and Sound designs respectively on New Diorama’s The Incident Room at Greenwich Theatre; Joe Bunker for Musical Direction and Dave Willetts for Supporting Performance in a Musical on Rags at the Park Theatre; Jonathan O’Boyle for Direction of a Musical on The Last 5 Years at Southwark Playhouse (which also picked up Best Musical Production); The Canary and the Crow at the Arcola for Ensemble Performance; and Jessica Rhodes for Lead Performance in a Play on The Sugar Syndrome at the Orange Tree Theatre.
