WICKED film to be released in two parts

It has been announced by director Jon M Chu via social media today that the upcoming film adaptation of hit musical Wicked will now be presented in two parts.

In a statement from Chu today, he said that the project will now be able to provide "more depth and surprise" by playing it out on a “bigger canvas”. He also said that it would detrimental to the show to cram everything into one film as it would involve “fatal compromises”.

Chu confirmed that the first film will be released in December 2024 and the second, a year later in December 2025.

Universal Studios previously announced its stars of the movie would be Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda.
