West End star Lara Martins releases debut album Canção

The Phantom of the Opera’s longest serving Carlotta, Lara Martins, has released her debut album,‘Canção’.

The eclectic album comprises of 22 songs, including tango, Brazilian music and Portuguese Fado to celebrate the music of Lara’s homeland, Portugal. 

After moving to the UK to study Opera at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Martins joined the West End cast of The Phantom of the Opera in 2012 and went on to play the role of Carlotta more than 1680 times over six years. Even with all of the restrictions in place, Martins was able to create ‘Canção last year. 

She has performed in Russia, Switzerland, Portugal and UK including gala concerts at many of the world’s finest opera houses. ‘Canção’ includes songs performed with accompaniment from piano, cello and bandoneon, giving space for her voice to define the album.

Songs on the album include Trova Do Vento Que Passa’, ‘Com Que Voz’ and ‘Abondono’, along with the first complete recording of Brazilian composer Camargo Guarnieri’s 13 love songs ever made.
