West End revival of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE will not play in 2021
Producers of the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sunday in the Park with George have made a statement to say that it will not be possible to stage the show in 2021.
Originally scheduled to play at the Savoy Theatre in summer 2020, the production was set to star Jake Gyllenhaal and Annaleigh Ashford but was disrupted due to the pandemic.
The producers’ statement said: "Due to ongoing government restrictions around travel and the reopening of theatres at full capacity, the producers of Sunday in the Park with George have taken the difficult decision that it is not going to be possible for the show to take place in London in 2021. Everyone involved remains 100 per cent committed to making the show work when conditions and schedule align to make it possible.
"Existing ticket holders will be contacted via email within seven days to discuss their options.”
The award-winning musical features music and lyrics by Sondheim, with a book by James Lapine.
Fingers crossed it will happen soon, Besties!
