WEBF's royalty-themed playlist for coronation weekend

Besties, the coronation day of King Charles III is nearly upon us, and the nation has everything from a coronation quiche to a coronation version of Colin the Caterpillar! So why not a musical theatre playlist? Whether you’re a fan of the royal family or you’re just in it for the free bank holiday, our royalty-themed playlist will get your weekend off to a great start!

For the First Time in Forever - Frozen

“Coronation day is just the best” - well, according to Anna anyway. We had to start the list with this getting-the-palace-ready song!

You'll Be Back - Hamilton

King George III’s bizarrely brilliant break-up song with America gives us an ending you can’t help but sing along to.

Ex-Wives - Six

Besties, we tried really hard to restrain ourselves from including every song from Six on this list! We settled for this opener which gives all the queens the chance to shine.

King of New York - Newsies

All types of royalty are welcome on this playlist, including newsies with New York at their feet!

Learn to Do It - Anastasia

If you want to learn to walk, talk and eat like a royal, it’s simple: just listen to this song.

I Just Can't Wait to Be King - The Lion King

Could there be a more appropriate pick? Simba’s at his most adorably excited in one of the best songs from one of the best Disney musicals.

Song of the King - Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Full-on Elvis vibes in Pharoah’s big Act 2 number.

Queen of Pop - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Violet Beauregarde is the undisputed queen of popping bubblegum! This song has been removed from the current UK tour (gutted!) so it definitely deserves some love here.

Prince Ali - Aladdin

Aladdin might not be a real prince but he’s earned his place here anyway!

Agony - Into the Woods

You get two princes for the price of one in this awesome duet from Rapunzel and Cinderella’s suitors.

I Wonder What the King Is Doing Tonight - Camelot

You can catch Aaron Sorkin’s revamp of Camelot on Broadway right now, or you can listen to this track from the original 1960 cast recording instead.

On the Steps of the Palace - Into the Woods

We couldn’t resist adding two songs from the recent Broadway revival of Into the Woods, and this song from Phillippa Soo’s Cinderella is Sondheim at his best.

The King of Broadway - The Producers

Check out Nathan Lane’s Tony-winning performance as a has-been New York theatre producer determined to recapture his former role as the King of Broadway.

What Comes Next - Hamilton

King George would have thrown a tantrum if he wasn’t on this list more than once.

Six - Six

Closing out with an epic finale from our favourite sextet of queens!

Enjoy your long weekend, Besties!
