Watford Colosseum to receive £5 million refurbishment funded by local council

Watford Colloseum

In a recent move back under council control, the Grade II-listed Watford Colosseum will undergo a £5 million refurbishment in a bid to secure its future beyond the pandemic.

The venue was being operated by HQ Theatres but this agreement has since ended.

Watford Borough Council’s plans will include improvements on its ceiling and heating system and they are considering the feasibility of creating new performance or rehearsal spaces within the existing building footprint.

The council also secured a two-year deal with the BBC Concert Orchestra recently, whereby they will use the venue’s facilities for rehearsals and recordings.

A date for the work to commence is yet to be revealed.
