Unicorn Theatre announces Spring & Summer programme
London’s Unicorn Theatre have announced four upcoming family and children’s productions for their Spring and Summer season.
Gulliver’s Travels, a radical reimagining of Jonathan Swift’s surreal novel, adapted by Lulu Raczka and directed by Jaz Woodcock-Stewart, will play from 6 March-16 April. A family show suitable for everyone aged 7 and over, this play will use video cameras, intricate table-top sets and projection alongside live performance to follow the story of Lemuel Gulliver, as she goes on an epic adventure of survival, unexpected friendship and self-discovery.
Playing from 11 March-17 April, Wild is based on the much-loved picture book by Emily Hughes and is brought to life by the How it Ended company, and directed by Eva Sampson. A highly visual, non-verbal piece of theatre for children aged 2-6, it tells the story of Wild, a girl whose home has been in the forest with the animals since birth. But one day, some new animals arrive and they look oddly like her. They want to take Wild away, but what if she’s happy where she is? This is a funny and moving story about accepting people for who they are rather than trying to make them into something they are not.
Get Dressed!, an energetic, warm and funny show for children aged 2-5, will play from 13 May-12 June. Created and directed by Jade Lewis, it features a young girl who is obsessed with her very favourite outfits, whatever the weather, and despite what her Dad thinks! The play speaks to children and adults equally, expressing the familiar joys and struggles of family life.
Marvin’s Binoculars, by Justin Audibert and directed by Hannah Quigley, plays from 1 June-3 July and is aimed at children aged 6-11. Marvin loves exploring all the parks around his home in London and finding birds, bugs and animals. On his ninth birthday he's overjoyed - his very own pair of binoculars! But then something terrible happens: he loses them, and to get them back, he must face the intimidating park warden. Touching on themes of racial prejudice and overcoming grief, Marvin’s Binoculars is a vibrant show that will inspire children to explore the outdoors.
