UK’s leading industry showcase of new musical theatre releases nationwide pitching days for BEAM2023

Mercury Musical Developments and Musical Theatre Network have announced details of a nationwide search for the country’s most exciting new musicals in a hunt for new work to present at BEAM2023, the UK’s biggest showcase of new musical theatre.

The search will travel around the country, partnering with theatres and arts organisations to host 19 pitching days in 12 towns and cities, with over 300 new musicals expected to be viewed in 10-minute pitches with an industry panel. From these pitches, up to 40 new musicals will be selected for BEAM2023.

Venues for the pitching events taking place between 22 September and 28 November include Exeter Northcott Theatre at the Barnfield, Chickenshed London, The Core at Corby Cube, Corby, Talawa Theatre Company, London, The other Palace, London, Octagon Theatre Bolton, MAST Mayflower Studios Southampton, Soho Theatre London, The Lowry Salford, The Other Room at Porter’s Cardiff, Rose Theatre London, The Holbeck Liverpool, Kiln Theatre London, Harlow Playhouse, Harlow, Birmingham Hippodrome, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Cecil Sharp House London, Sage Gateshead and Traverse Theatre Edinburgh.

Two masterclasses are being offered to those who would like some further guidance in terms of pitching for BEAM, with anyone interested able to register for free. The first will be an online session on 8 August and the second being an in-person event at Theatre at The Tabard, London on 1 September.

Natalia Scorer from Mercury Musical Developments said: “We are really looking forward to meeting artists up and down the country this autumn and hearing about the shows they are creating. Musical theatre can encompass so many different types of stories, disciplines and music styles and we hope to find the most exciting new work to present to the wider industry at BEAM2023.”
