UK workshops of major new musical BENNY & JOON announced

Two first-look 75-minute showcase performances of major new musical Benny & Joon will be presented to the public on 14 & 15 November at The Other Palace, it has been announced.

Benny & Joon is a delightful new musical comedy, based on the beloved hit film. Sweetly romantic and genuinely touching, it tells the story of Joon, an eccentric young woman, her protective older brother, and the charming and whimsical Sam, whose exuberant love for Joon changes them forever.

With his perfect impressions of Buster Keaton and his playful spirit, Sam shows Benny and Joon a new way to see the world. It is a moving love story full of magic and madness, unforgettable characters and a beguiling score.

Benny & Joon has a book by Kirsten Guenther, with music by Nolan Gasser, and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein.

The cast includes Christine Allado (Prince of Egypt, West End) as Ruthie, George Blagden (Vikings) as Sam, Hannah Elless (A Christmas Carol, West End) as Joon, Jak Malone (Operation Mincemeat, Riverside Studios) as Waldo, Landi Oshinowo (Matilda, West End) as Dr. Cruz, Simon-Anthony Rhoden (Hamilton, West End) as Mike, Andrew Samonsky (South Pacific Live, PBS) as Benny, and Eric Stroud (101 Dalmatians, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) as Larry.

The workshop is directed by Jack Cummings III, with musical direction by J. Oconer Navarro, choreography by Scott Rink, and casting by Will Burton.
