UK Theatre Award winners revealed in private ceremony

The winners of the UK Theatre Awards have been announced, following a ceremony at London’s Guildhall this afternoon (23 October).

Hosted by actor Courtney Bowman, the UK Theatre Awards celebrate achievements in theatre across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland by UK Theatre members.

The on stage winners include: Best Design for Dracula: The Untold Story at Leeds Playhouse; Best Director for Robert Hastie, Anthony Lau and Elin Schofield for Rock/Paper/Scissors at the Crucible, Studio and Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield; Best Musical Production for Billy Elliot the Musical at Leicester Curve; Best New Play for Mugabe, My Dad and Me by English Touring Theatre, Brixton House and York Theatre Royal; Best Performance in a Musical for Divina de Campo in Hedwig and the Angry Inch at Leeds Playhouse; Best Performance in a Play for Giles Terera in The Meaning of Zong at Bristol Old Vic; Best Play Revival for Abbey Theatre and Lyric Theatre Belfast’s co-production of Translations; Best Show for Children and Young People for Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World by Kenny Wax Family Entertainment; Best Supporting Performance (in a musical or play) for Nishla Smith in the Octagon Theatre and Theatre By The Lake’s co-production of Kes; Achievement in Opera for Richard Mantle for the past year at Opera North; and Achievement in Dance for the dancers of Rambert.

Off stage winners include: Digital innovation for Chichester Festival Theatre; Excellence in arts education for Lyric Theatre Belfast; Excellence in inclusivity for English Touring Theatre; Excellence in touring for Graeae Theatre Company, London; Workforce award for The Marlowe, Canterbury; UK’s most welcoming theatre for Leeds Playhouse; and Outstanding contribution to British theatre for former chief executive at New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich, Sarah Holmes.
