Happy Halloween Besties! We hope you've got your Elphaba face paint ready and your pumpkins glowing in the window! And what better way to celebrate the day than with a few of the best spooky musical theatre songs? Read on for our 13 top picks to listen to this Halloween, then check out our Spotify playlist!

The Whole "Being Dead" Thing - Beetlejuice

Is there a better way to kick off Halloween than with an introduction from the ghost with the most? Alex Brightman's Beetlejuice extols the virtues of death - including the fact that there’s no line for the women’s bathroom in the afterlife!

Good Girls Go to Heaven (Bad Girls Go Everywhere) - Bat Out of Hell

Of course this show’s title track is a worthy contender for any Halloween playlist, but we also love this song with its howling wind, darkness and rebellion.

Raise a Little Hell - Bonnie & Clyde

Who can resist Jeremy Jordan’s invitation to raise a little hell? Not us.

Dead Girl Walking - Heathers

Barrett Wilbert Weed absolutely kills this song about Veronica’s last night on earth before having to face the demon queen of high school.

Feed Me (Git It) - Little Shop of Horrors

Nothing says Halloween like a man-eating plant determined to take over the world. This track from the 2019 Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop features Kingsley Leggs as the blood-loving Audrey II and Jonathan Groff as the conflicted Seymour - check out his riff at 1:44. Delicious.

No Good Deed - Wicked

Is it really Halloween without your favourite witches? The creepiest song in Wicked deserves a spot on any October playlist.

Way Down Hadestown - Hadestown

Not surprising, seeing as it’s set in the underworld. Hadestown is full of spooky, sexy songs that are perfect for the season. This is one of our favourites.

Transylvania Mania - Young Frankenstein

There are a whole host of creepy songs on the Young Frankenstein cast recording, but this is the one guaranteed to get you dancing this All Hallow’s Eve.

What I Know Now - Beetlejuice

The second song on this list to be sung by someone in green face paint, Leslie Kritzer’s Miss Argentina gives us an ode to appreciating life, and advice on avoiding the many - many - horrible ways to die.

The Phantom of the Opera - The Phantom of the Opera

Who doesn’t appreciate a creepy trip through Parisian sewers on a gondola while gothic organ music plays? Perfect Halloween fodder.

Last Midnight - Into The Woods

The 2022 Broadway revival of Into The Woods is getting killer reviews, so we were thrilled when a cast recording was released! Patina Miller’s on top form here as the Witch.

Sexy - Mean Girls

Kate Rockwell’s Karen gives us a lesson on the joys of dressing up for Halloween. If you ever wanted to be a sexy Eleanor Roosevelt, now’s your chance!

Halloween - Be More Chill

We couldn’t miss out this song - perfect if you’re throwing your own Halloween party!

Enjoy, Besties!
