Originally planned to take place last June, the postponed Tony Awards ceremony will be scheduled “in coordination with the reopening of Broadway”, the New York Times has announced today.

The Broadway League and the American Theater Wing have also confirmed that the voting for the season, beginning in April 2019, will take place between 1-15 March.

Following the Broadway shutdown last March, the administrators of the awards said that only shows open by 19 February would be eligible, due to not enough voters seeing the productions opening after this date.

All voting will be done electronically and the voters, consisting of predominantly producers, presenters and theatre workers, can only vote in categories where they have seen all the nominees.

Nominated for the Best Musical accolade are: Jagged Little Pill, Moulin Rouge! The Musical and Tina — The Tina Turner Musical and the Best Play nominees are Grand Horizons, The Inheritance, Sea Wall/A Life, Slave Play and The Sound Inside.
