Three landmark productions help celebrate Pride on stream.theatre this month

Three new pieces will be available to watch on stream.theatre this month: the world digital premiere of Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City The Musical , Hushabye Mountain and Cruise.

Creator of Avenue Q Jeff Whitty, the Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears and John Garden are the team behind Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City The Musical, which is based upon Armistead Maupin’s novels about San Francisco in the 70’s. The presentation on stream.theatre celebrates the 10th anniversary of the musical’s premiere at San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater in 2011.

The musical will be available for one week only from 21-27 June 2021 and will be accompanied by an ‘in conversation’ with A.C.T. artistic director, and Tony Award winning director, Pam MacKinnon and Tony Award nominee Mx. Justin Vivian Bond, which will address the casting of cis-male and cis-female actors in trans roles in theatre, the broadening evolution and practices over the past decade within the industry and will highlight the importance of trans representation and diversity in theatre.

Continuing with the Pride celebrations will be Cruise, which returns to stream.theatre following its limited West End run. The play, written and performed by Jake Holden, tells the story of what should have been Michael Spencer’s last night on earth, after he had been told he had 4 years to live with a HIV diagnosis. The play will run from 14 – 27 June 2021.

Hushabye Mountain by Jonathan Harvey will stream from 11-13 and 18-20 June, and was filmed at the Hope Mill Theatre. It follows Danny, a young man who is waiting to be let into heaven after dying from an Aids-related illness. Hushabye Mountain has a star line-up of Layton Williams, Harrison Scott-Smith, Nathan McMullen. Amy Dunn and Jodie Prenger.

There is more coming to stream.theatre this month with the latest installment of The Theatre Channel, which will celebrate Rodgers and Hammerstein, and a brand new musical in Dorian: Rock Opera
