Theatres forced to close once again due to imminent national lockdown in England

Red tabs

Theatres, along with other entertainment venues, in England will close to the public from 5 November until at least 2 December, under new government ruling as we go into a second national lockdown.

In light of this sad but essential closure, the Prime Minister has said that the furlough scheme will be extended for the duration of the lockdown.

The measures outlined in this evening’s press conference will be put to a parliament vote on Wednesday 4 November and if passed, will come into force the following day.

Many news pieces that we have reported of late have been of reopening plans; many of which will be affected by tonight’s announcement.

After the enforced lockdown period, it is expected that the country will re-emerge into the current tiered system, which will hopefully mean that some theatres can re-open with social distancing measures.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has confirmed that film/TV production will be able to continue behind closed doors.

Keep positive, Besties!
