Theatre Royal Bath announces casting for Oleanna by David Mamet
In the last of its series of “Welcome Back” socially-distanced plays, the Theatre Royal in Bath will stage David Mamet’s Oleanna, an impassioned two-character play about a college student who accuses her professor of sexual harassment. At the time of its original release over thirty years ago, Michael Billington of The Guardian wrote that Oleanna “inflamed passions and divided partners.”
Starring in Oleanna will be John Heffernan (Edward II, Oppenheimer) as John and Rosie Sheehy (King John) as Carol. Originally set to be directed by Nicole Charles, Lucy Bailey will now direct the piece. The rest of the creative team is yet to be announced.
Oleanna debuted Off-Broadway in 1992, starring William H. Macy and Rebecca Pidgeon. It transferred to London’s Royal Court in 1993 and was directed by Harold Pinter, starring David Suchet and Lia Williams. Other notable productions include the 2004 revival at London’s Garrick Theatre, starring Aaron Eckhart and Julia Stiles.
The production runs from 25 November to 12 December and tickets can be purchased here.
