Theatr Clwyd has today announced the company’s full  reimagined 2020 Christmas season, which kicked off on 5 December with Once Upon A Christmas.

Once Upon A Christmas features three festive stories, which have been recorded by the panto company. One household at a time are able to step into the venue’s gallery and cinema space where they are immersed into each story with sound, music and lighting. This production runs through to 3 January.

The venue hopes to be able to perform to live audience soon but if this remains impossible due to the restrictions, the following two productions will be streamed into audience’s homes. 

Hour-long rock’n’roll panto style show,The Panto That Nearly Never Was!, combines music, storytelling and dance, and is scheduled to open on 17 December, playing until 3 January. From 22 to 29 December, the venue will then present The Ice Witch I Gwrach Yr Ia, a family story with performances being presented in both English and Welsh. 

Artistic Director Tamara Harvey said: “Despite the obvious challenges 2020 has brought, it felt vital to us as a company to deliver on the commitment we make to audiences at Christmas and find a way to share this time with them. Every year we bring three different events to our building to cater for audiences of all ages, and we will do so again this year with the immersive production of Once Upon A Christmas, our annual bilingual production Gwrach Yr Ia/The Ice Witch and of course our beloved pantomime The Panto That Nearly Never Was. Although we can’t share the festive magic in the way we usually would, we have found a way forward to bring music, joy and laughter to our audiences – whether they are joining us in person or from afar.”
