West End stars perform in new online musical theatre series

The Theatre Channel

A ten-part video series called The Theatre Channel will launch next month, which will see an array of West End stars performing special musical theatre numbers online.

The pay-to-stream series is co-produced by Adam Blanshay Productions and the Theatre Café, where the 30-minute episodes will also be filmed.

The Theatre Channel will be available to stream via a new platform and will feature a star line-up including Tarinn Callender, Carrie Hope Fletcher, Matt Henry, Lucie Jones, Oliver Ormson and Jenna Russell, with four additional performers – ‘The Café Four’ - to be announced, who will appear in each episode in supporting roles.

Once paid for, episodes of The Theatre Channel series can be watched on an unlimited basis.

Award-winning choreographer Bill Deamer will direct and choreograph the pilot episode, with Michael England as musical director, design by Gregor Donnelly, lighting by Jack Weir and sound by Keegan Curran.

The Theatre Café’s Ryan Woods said: "Myself and Adam had an idea to use the café as a kind of working set to bring theatregoers a live style production to watch online, which so many have looked to during these recent times to stay connected with Theatreland. The Theatre Café has remained committed to bring our audience the best quality and best content. We believe, with this fabulous team now assembled, we can produce something really special!"

Adam Blanshay said: "With our UK leaders encouraging the theatre industry to think innovatively in order to endure these unprecedented times, Ryan and I were adamant about creating an eclectic digital platform where we could create an ongoing stream of engaging content for theatre fans all over the globe throughout the continued theatre closures.

"Using London's beloved hub of all things theatrical – the Theatre Café – as our palette, the Theatre Channel aims to create a steady flow of work for artists and creatives over the next six months, and we're hopeful it will grow beyond that. Combining performance with digital streaming is the way forward, and we hope to capture the hearts and minds of viewers hungry to satisfy their theatrical appetites."
