The Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham and Birmingham Ormistion Academy have announced their new Christmas 2021 production as Alice in Wonderland.

They had been hoping to bring Beauty and the Beast to life this Christmas but due to lockdowns and other Covid restrictions, they have been unable to create the particular set and costumes which led to a revision in the production.

The popular children’s story of Alice in Wonderland will have a brand-new script by Toby Hulse, and old and new songs by Allan Jones.

It will follow Alice as she heads down the rabbit hole and encounters some peculiar characters in the shape of The Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat and many more.

This will mark the sixth Christmas production that The Old Rep have produced alongside Birmingham Ormiston Academy, with 25 students taking part in this year’s show. The production will run from 20 November to 17 December, with varying performance times.

Executive Director of The Old Rep Theatre, Michael Penn, said: “I cannot wait to hear the laughter, see the smiles and experience the joy that our Christmas productions bring to so many once again. We all need something magical at Christmas and Alice in Wonderland is sure to delight, amaze and entertain, so come and visit The Old Rep and enjoy live theatre once again!”.
