Following its successful tour in 2021, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has announced that it will extending to 19 March 2022 so the thrilling adaptation can be seen across more stages.

The classic Washington Irving tale has been adapted many times across various platforms, with this production having acclaimed playwright Philip Meeks behind the scenes. He delivers the ghoulish production with a new lease of life, with direction by Jake Smith.

The tale tells the story of new teacher Ichabod Crane, arriving in the small town and getting embroiled in the locals’ lives, secrets, and unsettling traditions. When a dangerous mystery arises, it leads him to doubt his own sanity leaving audiences on the edge of their seats.

Leading the cast are two Coronation Street stars, Wendi Peters and Bill Ward, who have both performed in the West End, in Big! The Musical and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie respectively. Joining them is Sam Jackson (Skins), Rose Quentin (York Witches Society), Lewis Cope (Vera) and Jon Paul Rowden (The Government Inspector).

The tour starts at Crewe’s Lyceum Theatre on 18 January, before travelling to Cardiff, Inverness, Derby, Ipswich, and Mold before finishing in Salisbury from 14-19 March 2022.

Director Jake Smith said: “Sleepy Hollow is undoubtedly one of the greatest horror stories ever written and a tour de force to stage. This production has at its heart the power of nomadic storytelling and gathering around the campfire for a good ghost story. It is an important story for now as we look at conversations around the identity of nations, communities and humankind throughout the world. This production has allowed an incredible ensemble of actors to viscerally and inventively bring the Hollow to life. We look forward to transporting the audience through a quest of logic and illusion, creating fear and defying expectation.”

The man responsible for the illusions in Back to the Future The Musical,  Filipe J. Carvalho, is at work again here, bringing the Headless Horseman and the Hollow to life. He is joined creatively by designer Amy Watts, choreographer Chris Cuming, sound designer Sam Glossop and lighting designer Jason Addison.
