Wales Millennium Centre’s adaptation of The Boy with Two Hearts is set to open in the National Theatre’s Dorfman space from 1 October-12 November.

Taken from the book about the extraordinary real-life experiences written by Hamed and Hessam Amiri, the production is directed by Amit Sharma and adapted for the stage by Phil Porter.

The cast includes Shamail Ali, Houda Echouafni, Dana Haqjoo, Farshid Rokey, Ahmad Sakhi, Lisa Zahra and award-winning Afghan vocalist and composer Elaha Soroor.

It’s a powerful story of hope, courage and humanity.  Set in Herat, Afghanistan in 2000, a young mother speaks out against the Taliban and her and her husband are forced to flee their home with their three sons. Embarking on a long journey across Russia and through Europe, finally seeking refuge in the UK. As their eldest son’s heart condition becomes life-threatening, he requires urgent surgery and their escape becomes a race against time.

Hamed and Hessam Amiri said: “We can't wait to share our story again with as many as people as possible. Our hope is to simply give the audience a chance to see our family’s journey through a different lens, and the human experiences behind the word refugee.”

Tickets are on sale now via the National Theatre website here.
