stream.theatre and Perfect Pitch partner to preview new British Musical Theatre
After a successful pilot in December, Perfect Pitch and stream.theatre will collaborate on Rise:Up, a monthly preview of new British musicals.
With the aim of promoting new UK writing talent, each episode with showcase a different musical in development, with two songs performed by West End stars.
Every month, a new episode will be shown to stream.theatre viewers for free as part of the pre-show entertainment to all content. Past episodes can be watched on demand via the streaming platform as well as on the Rise:Up Youtube channel, launching on 1 February.
To date, new musicals have featured Jack Godfrey’s 42 Balloons, which includes performances by Madeleine Charlemagne, Jake Halsey-Jones, Melanie La Barrie, Aaron Lee Lambert, Vicki Manser, Jack Shalloo and Georgie Westall; and In The Willows by P Burton Morgan, Keiran Merrick and Pippa Cleary with guest performances from Hiba Elchikhe, Tim Mahendran and Sharon Rose.
42 Balloons tells the true story of Larry Walters and Carol Van Deusen, who constructed an aircraft using a lawn-chair and 42 weather balloons in 1982; whilst In The Willows transposes Kenneth Grahame’s animal fable to an urban British comprehensive school ‘The Willows’.
February’s episode, which can be seen before every performance on stream.theatre next month, will feature John-Victor and Tamar Broadbent’s immersive musical Club Mex; a heart-warming coming-of-age comedy with an infectious, original musical score that fuses pop, dance and musical theatre, with a cast led by Jade Johnson.
